April 2020

Living in Alabama, Spring Break falls the last week of March.  If this holds true to the majority of the rest of the states, April is the best month in the first 6 months of 2020 to go to Walt Disney World!  Yes, there is the Easter break to watch for but its still the perfect combination of lower attendance and gorgeous weather.  Adding to the idyllic nature of April, a few of the new attractions and restaurants will have had their attendance-spiking openings and most of the winter attraction refurbishments will have been completed!

Pros

New Openings – 2019 was an incredible year that featured a lot of new things to explore at Disney.  And while not on as grand of a scale as Pandora or Galaxy’s Edge, there are a few new openings that have been anticipated for quite some time, including:

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – Train attraction at Hollywood Studios putting you right in the middle of a Mickey and Minnie Cartoon (March 4)

Mickey Shorts Theater – Family-style, Mickey-themed theater at Hollywood Studios featuring classic Mickey cartoons (March)

Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue – Outside barbecue-style restaurant at the America Pavilion (March?)

Space 220 – Themed-restaurant set in space at Future World (March?)

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival — March 4 – June 1, 2020 – Incredible topiaries, outside kitchens and springtime displays blossom all over EPCOT! Garden Rocks Concert Series this month include the following artists:

Steve Augeri – Former Lead Vocalist of Journey – March 31 through April 2                                            Blood, Sweat & Tears – April 3 and 4
Expose’ – April 5 and 6
Berlin – April 7 through 9
A Flock of Seagulls – April 10 and 11
TBD – April 12 and 13
Tony Orlando – April 14 through 16
TBD – April 17 and 18
Rick Springfield – April 19 and 20
Christopher Cross – April 21 through 23
Plain White T’s – April 24 through 27
Don Felder – Formerly of The Eagles – April 28 through 30

Disney After Hours and Disney Villains After Hours – While crowds are generally light anyways, what if you could have the park almost to yourself with pretty much no waiting for your favorite attractions?  This event that happens on select nights will give you such privilege where you can maximize ride time and minimize waiting! Visit either the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom after hours with barely no wait at all for your favorite attractions.  And for Disney Villains After Hours, your favorite bad guys join you in taking over Magic Kingdom after hours.

Normal Days are Light – Outside of a nice influx of guests for the Easter holiday, the last few weeks will feature low crowds.  As an added bonus, the park hours are pretty standard and consistent with openings and closings but check daily for Extra Magic Hour opportunities.

One outfit the whole day- April is typically the month where you can wake up and go to sleep wearing shorts and shirts in the parks.  A few cold-natured beings might want the occasional jacket however.  Mind the weather daily as showers are known to randomly pop up and because this is prime time from rapid cold-to-warm weather shifts, beware the rare tornado watch.

Cons

Star Wars Rival Run Half Marathon Weekend — Apr. 16-19, 2020 – Races for all ages and both sides of the force may bring extra people to the parks and affect hours and traffic.

Attraction Closures – Before the insane crowds of the Summer months descend on Orlando, April provides for one last chance to get provide some updates to classic attractions like:

Swiss Family Treehouse  – 4/27/20 t0 5/4/20
