Once upon a time at Disney World…

My “Happily Ever After” started on a visit with a Cast Member friend, Disney Bill. It was the day Merida was inducted into the Princess cannon, and Magic Kingdom had a special procession, a stage show, and in attendance were those two British kids that were popular from The Ellen Show, Sophia Grace and Rosie (Anybody remember them?).  John, who would become my future husband, and his friend were meeting up at EPCOT with a woman they worked with, along with her friends. I happened to go to high school with the woman, and we both loved Disney.  John’s buddy backed out at the last second, leaving John to go without really knowing anyone.  Being the only guy. John almost skipped it, but his friend encouraged him to go, and boy am I glad he did.

…a girl and a guy went into a margarita bar…

We found ourselves at my “Most Magical Place on Earth.” Other people use that term to describe Walt Disney World, but within this magical place, is MY magical place. La Cava del Tequila, the little tequila cave and margarita bar tucked inside the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT.  Yes, they serve delicious and unique tequilas, but this spot also happens to be where I met my now-husband, John. And, as I like to say whenever I tell this story, we hadn’t had a sip of alcohol, so you know it’s genuine! I park hopped over to EPCOT, and we all converged at the tequila bar to say hello and introduce ourselves. John claims it was love at first sight!

…which started your typical “love at first sight” story featuring Donald, Jose, and Panchito…

It was also Long Lost Character week and The Three Caballeros, Donald, Jose, and Panchito, were meeting in Mexico. I bought one of those huge sombreros and we all waited in a loooooong line to get a picture with them. John wore that floppy, cumbersome sombrero all around the World Showcase. Whenever we would take a group picture, he says he would try to stand by me, and sure enough, when I look back at the pics from that day, he is!

…and Peter Noone with Herman’s Hermits…

As we strolled into America, Herman’s Hermits was playing in the Gardens Theater as part of the concert series during The Flower and Garden Festival. John and I danced to their music, and I sang along (my dad managed an Oldies radio station when I was a kid, so I am familiar lol). At one point, I pinched his cheeks and said, “You’re cute!” It was when I felt the spark for sure.

…and they are currently living Happily Ever After!

The rest, they say, is history. Soon after we started dating, I jokingly told him I only dated Annual Passholders (heonly had Seasonal), and I’ll be darned if he didn’t upgrade his pass! We also got engaged at Animal Kingdom Lodge, honeymooned on a 7-Night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy, and celebrated our first year of marriage by dining in a different Epcot country on the 15th of each month. Not too shabby for a guy who honestly doesn’t even really love Disney all that much!
Over the years, we have grown our family and I am able to to experience Disney love with the other loves of my life, my two boys.  We are fortunate to live 10 minutes from Disney World and we spend many Mother-Son dates together.  Every time I arrive on property, I discover new ways that people fall in love at this magical place.  From first meetings to dates, to engagements and weddings, to anniversarys, reunions and simply return visits, magic and love is all around and shows up in many ways.  All that to say, let me plan your next vacation! Who knows who you’ll meet while in the World!!
