If we based Walt Disney World traffic using a grid with quadrants consisting of kids in school and weather, September finds itself in the quadrant where the crowds are slightly lighter but the weather is still pretty hot…and hurricanish?! While there may not be a ton of openings and milestones, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is in full swing and so is the International Food & Wine Festival.
Pros
Free Dining – Enjoy your 4-night, 4 park hopper ticket stay with free dining. Possible dates include 8/29-9/8. Has to be booked by January 16th.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Magic Kingdom) — Select nights from August to October 2020 – Trick-or-treat Disney style with characters in seasonal costumes, festive treats and special parades and shows
Epcot International Food & Wine Festival — August to November 2020 – International festival featuring marketplace kiosks offering local food wine and beer pairings
Cons
Hurricane Season – Weather is so unpredictable in central Florida. It can be picture perfect one hour and then the bottom fall out the next, only to clear right up and leave you with the humidity. But in September, we really crank up hurricane season. Less than a handful of times has Disney closed the parks due to the weather but the threat will always be there.
Attraction Closures – While most of the closures and refurbishments happen in the Spring, there are a couple of attractions that will be closure for lengthy to permanent reasons:
Stitch’s Great Escape – Closed (Possibly Permanent)
Walt Disney World Railroad – Closed December 2018-TBA
Spaceship Earth – Closed Late May 2020 – TBA
Disney’s Art of Animation – Big Blue Pool – Closed mid-September to mid-December 2020
