Anticipating Two Dreams…
Mike and I had been dating for a little over a year and I knew that engagement was in the near future. We were running the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon together and decided to make a staycation out of it. We had booked a room at the Polynesian for the weekend and were excited to run our first big race together. Now, I suspected the engagement was doing to happen that weekend. We were part of a close friends wedding the weekend before and it was strongly hinted at by everyone. I was excited and anticipating it the entire weekend. Every meal we had together, every Disney landmark need walked by, I thought to myself “is this the time?”
…Conquering One Dream…
Finally the race came around and I had honestly thought to myself that the engagement just wasn’t going to happen that weekend! I packed our race packs and we headed to the course. We ran 13.1 magical miles in our happy place and we finished the race together. After the race Mike was very adamant about getting our photo taken together with our own camera. He asked the post race photographers but they could only use their cameras. The race emptied out into the EPCOT World Showcase between Canada and England and we headed towards France to get away from some of the crowds. Mike kept wanting to get a photo with Spaceship Earth in the background and we walked further towards France. I was hungry and thirsty (it was after 1 am at this point) and clearly didn’t understand what the big deal was.
…Saying Yes the Other Dream!
Finally, we got to the bridge between England and France and Mike asked a woman to take our photo. As I was handing the woman my camera he had gotten down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I don’t remember his exact words but it was short and sweet and I obviously said “Yes!” The next day we enjoyed EPCOT Food and Wine Festival and many fellow racers recognized us as “the couple that got engaged after the race.” It was the perfect celebration for our engagement!
Capturing the Dream
Since that time, we’ve gotten anniversary photos and family photos taken on Disney property. Photos are a huge deal for me and I always want to document our life together. I would love to share my photography tips to all lovers of Disney, not just my clients. Love will always live on in your heart and in your dreams, but it’s nice to have that image in a scrapbook or a phone as well!
