May 2020

My last trip with my family was Mother’s Day weekend.  The temperatures were perfect, EPCOT was in full bloom, all the attractions were open, we enjoyed the pools, the park hours stayed open a little later and all moms were given small flowers.  Basically, early May was outstanding.  Late May, however?  Yeesh!

Disney After Hours and Disney Villains After Hours – While crowds are generally light anyways, what if you could have the park almost to yourself with pretty much no waiting for your favorite attractions?  This event that happens on select nights will give you such privilege where you can maximize ride time and minimize waiting! Visit either the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom after hours with barely no wait at all for your favorite attractions.  And for Disney Villains After Hours, your favorite bad guys join you in taking over Magic Kingdom after hours.

Normal Days are Light – The first few weeks are about as perfect as you can get with attendance and temperature as your main factors.  As an added bonus, the park hours are pretty standard and consistent with openings and closings but check daily for Extra Magic Hour opportunities.

One outfit the whole day- May is typically the month where you can wake up and go to sleep wearing shorts and shirts in the parks.  Sweaty individuals may want to break mid-day to change because humidity will begin this month. Mind the weather daily as showers are known to randomly pop up.

Cons

Beginning of Summer Crowds –If you can get your kid out of school early in the month and not feel guilty missing a few days late in the school year, DO IT!  Once the week before Memorial Day hits, you’ll wonder if the 3rd week of May really was that much better in terms of lighter crowds.  Take it from us – yes, it is that much better.  And for some weird reason, the last week of May also feels 50 degrees warmer!

Attraction Closures – Before the insane crowds of the Summer months descend on Orlando, May provides for one last chance to get provide some updates to classic attractions like:

Swiss Family Treehouse  – 4/27/20 t0 5/4/20

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – May 4 to May 21, 2020
